The question as to whether Fredi Bobic will depart the SGE to take over as Hertha BSC’s new sporting director took a definitive turn towards the the affirmative late Monday evening. Sky’s German outfit reports the 49-year-old has filed a request to prematurely end the contract keeping him in Germany’s commercial capital through 2023.
Virtually all German media sources confirm the report, while emphasizing that no concrete agreement is in place yet and that negotiations may take weeks. Contacted by German footballing magazine Kicker, Frankfurt Supervisory Board Chairman Philip Holzer confirmed that the club’s board was “in talks about [Bobic’s] future direction”, but gave no details.
Should it be true that Bobic eyes a new position at Germany’s larger capital city club, Frankfurt may be entitled to some compensation for ripping up their CEO’s contract. This could further prolong official confirmation of the announcement. Both sides will nevertheless look to conclude matters promptly after the latest leaks.
